Christian teachings and thought have greatly influenced Coptic culture, norms, and values. They enhanced and invigorated some of the ancient Egyptian traditions, modified and changed some others. In the previous article, the writer outlined some of the fundamental differences between ancient Egyptian and Christian beliefs. The genesis of Judeo-Christian beliefs is divine revelation, whereas ancient Egyptian beliefs came about through human observations, reflections and suppositions

Building Bridges Between The East And West PDF Print E-mail

Saudi Arabia is spending a lot of money to go into Eritrea and Ethiopia to convert Christians to Islam, and every four miles, there is a mosque in an area where there aren’t a lot of Muslims.”

Philadelphia — When most people think of the Catholic Church, they think of its Roman, or Western, branch, largely unaware of the world’s approximately 20 million Eastern Catholics. These Catholics have their own traditions similar to those found in the Orthodox churches, their own canon law, different forms of the Mass and many have married priests — all dating from antiquity.

Most Eastern Catholic Churches came into existence following the 16th century Council of Trent after the Catholic Church renounced 13th and 15th century efforts at corporate reunion with the Orthodox, instead sending Franciscan and Jesuit missionaries to convert them while allowing them to retain their ancient traditions.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, the government shall be, upon his shoulder. He is God the Powerful, and the Counselor…Rejoice and be happy…for God has revealed his love to the world, that He gave his beloved Son for those who believe in Him, so that they may live forever.” From the Praises of the Coptic Orthodox Holy Psalmody: Monday Theotokia  Long time ago as a Coptic child growing up in Egypt, I used to attend Sunday school. In one of the Sunday school lessons, the teacher told us a most interesting story, which I tend to believe some of the readers, might be familiar with, and in my view provides a good example for the influence of the tenets of the Christian faith on Coptic culture, values, and norms.

And the Medal of Courage Goes to…. PDF Print E-mail

Every year around Thanksgiving, one of my favorite traditions is that the cable stations run the 1939 version of “The Wizard of Oz,” a movie beloved by many children. And, as with many children’s movies, the basic premise and plot lines also can be great lessons for adults.

Jews, Christians and all other non-Muslims are not allowed to practice their faith in Saudi Arabia
 by: Ali al-Ahmed, NY Post

SEVERAL Middle Eastern and world leaders will meet in New York this week under United Nations auspices to discuss the world state of religious freedom.

The meeting - part of an initiative of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz on religious dialogue - is controversial. Abdullah, an authoritarian ruler, leads one of the most (if not the most) religiously oppressive regimes, which has amply earned its nickname "The Kingdom of Hatred."

A recent US State Department report on religious freedom documents appalling trends in Saudi Arabia, which aspires to be the center of a major world religion yet still practices discriminatory policies toward other religions and oppression of other Islamic sects.
