Cairo (AINA) -- Thousands of Christian Copts from all over Egypt
rallied on Wednesday within the grounds of St. Mark Cathedral in Cairo
during Pope Shenouda's weekly sermon, to protest a recent court ruling
ordering the Church to issue re-marriage permits for divorcees, a
ruling deemed inconsistent with the doctrine of the Coptic Orthodox
Church (AINA 5-30-2010).
The Coptic Church does not allow re-marriage except in very limited
circumstances of adultery (to the non-guilty partner only) and
conversion of one partner to another faith.
Approximately 10,000 demonstrators chanted their support for Pope
Shenouda and the Church's stance on rejecting the decision of the
Supreme Administrative Court, which the Copts view as unprecedented
interference in church affairs and contrary to religious beliefs. They
also chanted that all Copts in Egypt and abroad are behind the decision
of His Holiness, and "our personal affairs should only be regulated
only according to the teachings of the Bible, and it is not for the
judiciary to interfere in our religious affairs."
The demonstrators carried banners showing "O faithful leader, we are
with you" and "No provisions and no laws will make us violate the
teachings of the Bible."
The Cathedral was overcrowded with thousands of visitors, coming to
show support for Pope Shenouda, who was met with a standing ovation and
cheers of support for nearly 10 minutes, with chants such as "We love
you Pope Shenouda" and "Pope Shenouda, Protector of our Faith."

(AINA) -- The head of the Coptic Church in Egypt has rejected a court ruling (AINA 5-30-20)
that orders the church to allow divorced Copts to remarry in the
church. In a press conference held on Tuesday June 8, Pope Shenouda,
reading from the statement issued by the Holy Synod's 91 Bishops
including himself said "The Coptic Church respects the law, but does
not accept rulings which are against the Bible and against its
religious freedom which is guaranteed by the Constitution." He went on
to say "the recent ruling is not acceptable to our conscience, and we
can not implement it."
He also said that marriage is a holy
sacrament of a purely religious nature and not merely an
"administrative act." This statement came in response to the Supreme
Court's ruling which said that the duties of the church was
administrative. He pointed out that the second marriage for divorcees
is a religious issue, governed by the Bible.
Pope Shenouda
added that Islamic Law (Sharia) says "judge between people of the
Scripture according to what they believe in," and this principle came
in all personal status laws. He pointed out that many of the provisions
of the Court of Cassation and the Supreme Constitutional Court stressed
the principle of the application of Christian law on its followers.

CJCUC Statement on Christians in the Middle East Contact: David Nekrutman, The Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding, 516-882-3220 MEDIA ADVISORY, June 8 /Christian Newswire/ -- We, the leaders of The Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding, are distressed over the decline of Christians throughout the Middle East. In the last 50 years, the Christian populations in the region have dropped significantly in every country except Israel. This trend has accelerated in the last 10 years.
Christians were once a majority in Lebanon, but today they comprise only 30 percent of all Lebanese. Four out of every five Maronite Christians have left the country. Assyrian Christians have left Iraq in large numbers, and a significant number of Coptic Christians are now leaving Egypt due to religious persecution. In Iran, Christian rights have been curtailed. There are no Christian citizens in Saudi Arabia, and American soldiers and foreign workers are barred from displaying their Christian faith in public. In many Middle East countries, Muslim conversion to Christianity is a capital offense.

Fatwa sanctioning the use of Christian and Jewish holy text as toilet paper pre dates Dena Milany's controversial comments about the Quran by 6 years
The Free Copts Team
This is the first of a series aimed to expose Islamic Hypocrisy which is, for most part, not known to the non-Arabic speaking people. This hypocrisy is actually essential part of the Islamic teachings and is called (Takkiya) in Arabic تقية, a unique word which translates: lying if necessary to enhance Islam’s image or achieve its objectives.
You definitely won’t find shortage of Muslims when it comes to protesting for their rights, freedoms and against anybody who does as much as say or use the word Mohamed the wrong way. With frowned faces, loud voices, clinched fists, burning signs, making death threats … etc.; they demand respect for their religion, for the Islamic symbols to remain untouched and for everybody to basically “fall in line” when it comes to Islam. They do that with one hand while with the other they apply a totally different and completely opposite set of standards when it comes to others’ different beliefs.
